Met a wonderful lady working on a tibetan buddhist documentary #buddhism

The other night I went into San Francisco to help a lady with some video compression. She needed her documentary in a specific format so that she could have it converted to DigiBeta. She was an attractive and kind woman who had many tibetan buddhist objects throughout her house. We got to talking about

I learned a valuable life lesson today

Today I learned a valuable lesson. Learning lessons isn’t the important thing though, because there are plenty of concepts we “know” and “understand” but fail to embody and put into practice in our daily lives. It is important to distinguish between knowing and doing.

What I learned today was that Continue reading

Scott Pilgrim, a must see for nerds everywhere

Just went to see Scott Pilgrim and I must say I am pleased.

Slightly embarrassed, but pleased.

The movie had great music and definitely didn’t take itself too seriously, which is something that I always enjoy. The fight scenes and special effects were surprisingly well done.

My thoughts on #socialmedia

I’m still testing out posterous’ (this blog site’s) features, so bare with me on the unrelated video.Today I wanted to talk about #Socialmedia. Why? Because Socialmedia is a fast growing market that is burning up the #interwebs and taking no prisoners. When I say Socialmedia, I mean sites like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, LinkedIn, WordPress, Flickr, Posterous, Tumblr, and many other interactive platforms. These sites are becoming a new way in which people can find information that is fresh and relevant to them without having to go through google or other search engines.

(This ridiculous video has 7 MILLION VIEWS! This was accomplished through the power of socialmedia sharing)

Social media sites are starting to expand and make connections with each other that were not possible or even conceivable in the last 5 years. This, in my opinion, is an evolution of consciousness and the way information is relayed.

Of course it’s still just bits and bytes of information floating around in cyberspace, but this industry is growing rapidly, making some people extremely rich or popular in the process who would have never made it to the top in previous arenas.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on this industry which I am beginning to immerse myself in. If you have any knowledge to share with me, or are curious to know more, don’t hesitate to let me know how you feel about all this.

Yours in the interwebs,
Thomas Herington

Random mumblings

Just changed the appearance of the blog a bit, I like this new Coraline theme.

My shoulder blades are hurtin me today, contracting inwards towards my spine. It really makes me wonder, what is it that makes our bodies change so drastically day to day? Sometimes you’ll be in immense pain for hours, days, weeks, months on end, and then moments later you have forgotten about it and it’s gone.

What allows us to change, and what prevents it?

I don’t have  an answer to this question, but it’s worth pondering.

art (opinion)

The fine line between art and overdone.

Some people make art.
Some people attempt art, but its just too forced or obscure.
Some people aren’t doing much of anything, but it ends up being beautiful art.

It’s frustrating to me the feeling I get when I read, watch or listen to someone being purposely obscure/vague/out there, attempting to make something considered “artistic”.

You have to learn to color inside the lines before you can masterfully color outside of them. This is my opinion.

Virtue

Just because virtue and righteousness are relative doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. Virtuous action is a real thing that is worth cultivating. The fact that it is relative means you will have to find out for yourself, or realize what wisdom resonates with you personally.

Don’t get stuck in the quagmire of using the ultimate state of everything being equal as a relative excuse for not dealing with problems or as an excuse not to create favorable circumstances for others.

Move beyond mundane motivation and work for the benefit of others in all that you do, whether this feeling is on the surface or hiding somewhere in the depths. Work for yourself alone and you will always feel like something is lacking. Always work for others benefit and your own desires will be accomplished naturally.

Don’t be fake

Don’t be fake, don’t be untrue, don’t be a liar, don’t hide.

Just don’t do it!

Be yourself, be what you feel right now, at this very moment, don’t deny it.

Is what you are doing wrong, does it feel wrong afterwards? Don’t do it!

Just be who you are. period.

You’ll thank yourself for it later on.

find it for yourself

We all have to find our path for ourselves.

No matter to which religion we belong, we need to experience the truths of their teachings within our own life to truly have faith.

Many religious books or teachers will tell you things that may ring true within you, but they do not take hold until we have our own encounter with their meaning.

No matter how many people tell you that honey is sweet, this will never compare to actually putting it on your tongue.

You must obey your own code, even if you would like to follow the code of a specific tradion, you must follow your own until that tradition becomes one with your own.
Sincerely,
Thomas Herington

People are so different

People are so different it’s a wonder we can all get along. When I was younger I used to be confused as to why everyone didn’t like the same things I did, because it felt like that had to be the only way to think, how could someone not come to the same conclusion as me?

The older I get the more I realize that people are so different, you could go as far as to say they live in their own dimensions, their own little world, and very rarely do we truly get a glimpse into another’s mind.

We’re all out their hacking our way through the underbrush of life, trying to find our path, or we’ve been hackin away for so long we forget the reason and just learn to enjoy the act of wielding that machete.

Opening up to strangers when you don’t get any selfish reward is something to be cultivated. It brings humanity closer together, helps people relate and see just how many worlds there are out there. It is something that is desperately needed in this time when people are zoning out, checking out, isolating themselves in so many ways, with technology to drugs, to whatever you name it.

Your opinion may be different, but I’d like to think you agree with me.

Sincerely,
Thomas Sterling Herington
